Read on for details on the company's desire to receive application materials directly from students even if they will not be at the event...

"As part of our recruitment efforts and ongoing commitment to diversity, I would like to invite your law students of color and/or diverse backgrounds to attend the 85th Annual National Bar Association Convention and Exhibits. The convention will be held at the New Orleans Marriott, 555 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA from August 9, 2010 through August 13, 2010. Please note that as part of the convention a Job Fair, in which Liberty Mutual will be participating, will take place on Monday August 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

As an employer of more than 500 attorneys in 35 states, we will have representatives on-site to interview students and discuss legal department career opportunities at our company. I encourage your students of color to visit the Liberty Mutual booth, which will be located in the NBA Exhibit Hall, to meet our representatives and learn more about our company.

For those students, or alumni, who cannot attend the conference and would like additional information about our company or those who would like to schedule a date and time specific to meet with our representatives, I invite them to submit a cover letter and resume electronically to me at James.Bynoe@libertymutual.com."

UPDATE on the LSBA Minority Fair

ATTENTION BLSA: BIDDING HAS BEEN EXTENDED!

Because of complications caused by the Fourth of July holiday, the deadline for student "bidding" for interviews has been extended to July 8th for the Louisiana State Bar Association Minority Involvement Section's job fair, scheduled for Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Southern University Law Center. The student brochure is available at the following link: http://www.lsba.org/lsbadocuments/317(1).pdf.

To bid for an employer, please log on to Symplicity (https://law-lsba-csm.symplicity.com/students) and (1) create an account if you don't have one or (2) update your profile (especially your class year), resume, and documents if you do. If your class year is incorrectly listed, you may not see the employers for which you are eligible to bid.For example, if you are listed as a 1L, you will see no employers because 1Ls cannot participate in this fair.

The last day to submit bids to receive invitations from interviewing employers or lottery-generated invitations is July 8, 2010. Please note that you cannot submit bids until you upload your resume and other documents that the employer requests. Most employers are requesting a copy of an unofficial transcript and a writing sample. Please act quickly to complete the registration process by uploading your documents no later than July 8! You will be able to register and create accounts after July 8 to visit information tables, participate in the resume books, and attend the networking luncheon.

Students attending the Fair are invited, free of charge, to attend the diversity networking luncheon from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Southern. Students will have the opportunity to network with employers, judges, and public officials regardless of whether they are formally interviewing.

Contact the Career Services Office of your law school or alma mater or Kelly McNeil Legier (kelly.legier@lsba.org; 504-619-0129) if you have questions or need additional information about registration or the bidding process.

If you are receiving a message that your account is disabled, trying verifying your email by clicking on the link contained in the email that should have come from Symplicity when you created your account. Sometimes this email can be found in your spam or junk email folder. If you continue to have problems logging on, please contact Kelly Legier.

We look forward to seeing you at the Fair.

Sincerely,

Kelly

Developing Issues: Juvenile Justice

Time is Running Out in Congress on three very important juvenile issues:

- Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA) : JJDPA (S.
678) has not been reauthorized for three years and is an important bill that
promotes alternatives to detention for juveniles. It helps reduce juvenile
detention in adult facilities, reduces racial discrepancies and promotes
alternative best practices.

- Increasing Juvenile Justice Appropriations : Since 2002, states have
experienced a decline in funding for juvenile justice programs and it is
important to request federal funding for programs that offer rehabilitation
and alternatives to incarceration for our nation's youth.

- Youth PROMISE Act : The Youth PROMISE Act implements the best policy
recommendations from crime policy makers, researchers, practitioners,
analysts, and law enforcement officials from across the political spectrum
concerning evidence- and research-based strategies to reduce gang violence
and crime.

Wednesday July 7, is National Juvenile Justice Call-In Day. Please call
the offices of your U.S. Senators and U.S. House of Representatives and urge
them to make juvenile justice a priority for the 111th Congress.

Please Take Action href="http://capwiz.com/cj/utr/1/FKCIMVXDRM/CNWHMVXDUO/5474866411">here and/or entering your zip code above to contact your
U.S. Senators and U.S. House of Representatives. Suggested talking points
are provided once you click the link and enter your zip code.

Thank you for your help on this important issue,

Angelyn Frazer
State Legislative Affairs Director
